Fancy Some New Bands in Your Life?

I spend a lot time hunting through band pages, record labels and review websites to find music and industry news. It's fun for me cause I find out stuff about the music I like including tour dates, album releases and lots of gossip. But it then also gives me a lot to talk about in my hour radio show.

The show this week is very music-heavy but I'm hoping you will enjoy the collection of tracks I have put together and find a band/artist that you want to listen to more. Also if you think there are any bands I should be playing as well, leave me a wee comment and I'll have a listen.

You can find the track list for the show below but if you want more detail about the songs or bands then listen via the link.

Twin 1 and Twin 2.

This week my twin sister came to visit me in Glasgow so it only seemed right to take her onto Strathclyde Fusion and make her my special guest on MusicBubble.(The photo is about 6 months old but I posted it so you could see how similar we look :P ).
Well one similarity we do have is our music taste - the songs she suggested were ideal and after playing them on the show I now have two new bands to follow.

Ben Howard
Another highlight of my sister's trip was the Ben Howard gig we went to yesterday. I have wanted to see him live for ages and he defiantly exceed my high expectations. You would think after touring with the same one album for over a year the performance may be quite flat. However, the  cheeky wee smile and slick guitar skills showed that he still loves it. The songs from his very new EP 'The Burgh Island' fit well into this set as they're quite atmospheric sounding between the classics 'Keep Your Head Up' and 'The Wolves'. Kinda wish he had played his cover of Carly Rae Jepsen though....

So here is the recording of this week's show. My aim in the next couple of shows is to work on the sound levels with bedding tracks and mics but hope you enjoy the music of this week's MusicBubble.

LOVE x

"A Wave. An Awesome Wave."

This week the show was a little different as the Mercury Prize Winner was to be announced 4hrs after my show was on air.  Therefore it made perfect sense for the show to contain a run down of all 12 nominees and what they were all about as well as the usual kind of music that I like to play.

The Mercury Prize is talked about a lot every year as it celebrates new, emerging or alternative UK albums and artists that perhaps wouldn't get a look in within other award ceremonies. It is also known for the judges giving their one and only award to perhaps the underdog or the unexpected contender rather than the more obvious choice (Speech Debelle in 2009??). This is perhaps why people have said that this is a pretentious event because it purposely doesn't appeal to the mass, mainstream-loving audience, but both Ben Howard and Plan B were nominated this year....
Personally, I think it's a great event and, this year especially, I was keen to read a lot of the articles and news stories about all the nominees and their albums.

AND THE 2012 WINNER IS>>>

Congrats to Alt-J!
Winning the award this year for their album 'An Awesome Wave'

Regardless of them winning this award, this is one of my favourite albums of the year. My friends on Facebook and Spotify could tell you that I probably listen to this album at least 3 times a week. It's a perfect album to listen to all the way through with all the tracks linking so well together but still having individual uniqueness about them. Very happy that I already have tickets to see them live in May.

Have a listen to this week's show and maybe have your say; let me know who your winner would be...

LOVE x
